Yvonne Uwitonze became a Growth Guide with a clear purpose — to equip young people in her community with the knowledge and skills they need to improve their lives through better financial management and entrepreneurship. She recognized that many youth were struggling not because they lacked ambition, but because they did not have access to practical knowledge on how to manage money or run a business effectively. Taking on this role gave her the opportunity to directly address that gap and contribute to more sustainable development within her community.

Through her work, Yvonne has reached between 400 and 500 young people, providing training, mentorship, and ongoing follow-up to help them strengthen their businesses. Her support focuses on building strong financial habits, including record-keeping, saving, and understanding how to access and use financial services. She also connects young entrepreneurs with financial institutions, helping them navigate systems that often feel complex and out of reach.

Her impact is reflected in real transformations. One young woman she supported started a small fruits and vegetables business after receiving guidance on financial management, saving, and customer care. Over time, the business grew, expanding into different markets and increasing income, which not only improved her livelihood but also inspired other young people to start their own ventures. Stories like this show how access to knowledge and consistent support can lead to tangible growth and ripple effects across the community.

Unlike many areas where financial access remains limited, some of the youth Yvonne has supported have successfully secured loans. This is a source of pride for her, as it demonstrates that the knowledge and preparation she provides are translating into real opportunities and improved outcomes for young entrepreneurs.

Through this role, she has also developed personally, strengthening her patience, communication skills, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Working closely with youth has deepened her capacity to guide others while continuing to learn and grow herself.

Her vision is to see young people become self-reliant, skilled, and financially independent, actively contributing to the development of their communities. She believes that with the right support and mindset, youth can move from seeking opportunities to creating them.

Her message to young people is grounded in confidence and consistency: believe in yourself, work hard, keep learning, and understand that small steps taken today can lead to meaningful success in the future.
