KIP is grounded in rigorous research, including studies funded by the Walmart Foundation and conducted by ANDE and the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), as well as AMI’s extensive on-the-ground experience across South African townships and other African markets.


Over 15 months, Kasipreneurs will learn core entrepreneurial and strategic practices essential for building a thriving business. Participants will attend live workshops and complete courses that focus on attracting new customers and improving marketing efforts; effectively managing finances to boost profit; streamlining operations and implementing new processes to reduce waste; identifying growth strategies and leveraging tools to increase sales; and implementing people management strategies to attract and retain the best talent.

    • Set up daily routines and manage stock efficiently

    • Introduce SOPs and systems to support business growth


    Phase 4: Scale – Grow Boldly and Reach More Customers

    • Explore new growth strategies tailored to your business

    • Use WhatsApp, Instagram, and delivery apps to expand sales

    • Prepare to pitch for corporate contracts and supply deals


    Phase 5: Food Safety & Hygiene – Comply, Protect & Build Trust

    • Learn the basics of Regulation R638 food safety compliance

    • Identify and manage food hazards in low-resource settings

    • Apply hygiene SOPs and prep for mock inspections and audits


    Phase 6: Talent – Build a Team That Works With You

    • Know when and how to hire the right team members

    • Set up basic HR practices, contracts, and fair working conditions

    • Train, motivate, and manage your team for long-term growth

  • Our structured 15-month programme develops essential entrepreneurial skills through focused phases. The programme includes:

    • 5 Learning Labs facilitated by AMI

    • 5 Reflection Pod Sessions facilitated by AMI

    • 10 Online courses and several practical business tools

    • Access to mobile app for tools that support implementation

    • 5 Personal Mastery sessions

    • Township-based food entrepreneurs in South Africa

    • Owners of small or informal food businesses (e.g. kota shops, food trailers, home-based catering)
