Nyaruguru

Devotha Uwamahoro became a Growth Guide with a clear mission — to help young people turn their ideas into real opportunities by strengthening their understanding of financial literacy and entrepreneurship. She had seen many youth with strong potential but lacking the guidance needed to move forward, and she chose to step in as part of the solution, helping bridge the gap between ideas and action.

Through her work, Devotha has supported around 300 young people, providing training, mentorship, and practical guidance that helps them better manage and grow their businesses. Her approach focuses on building strong foundations, from financial planning and saving habits to understanding how to responsibly access and use loans. She also plays an important role in connecting young entrepreneurs with financial institutions, helping them navigate systems that often feel complex or out of reach.

Her impact is reflected in real stories of change. One young person she mentored was able to start a small business after receiving training and guidance, and today that business is growing, allowing them to support themselves and contribute to their family. Experiences like this highlight how access to knowledge and consistent support can translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

Unlike many areas where access to finance remains a challenge, some of the youth Devotha has worked with have successfully secured loans. For her, this is a source of pride, as it shows that young people are not only learning but also applying that knowledge to improve their situations. It reinforces her belief that with the right support, youth can become confident participants in financial systems and use these opportunities to grow.

Through this role, Devotha has also developed personally, learning the importance of patience, clear communication, and continuous learning. Working closely with young people has strengthened her ability to guide, listen, and adapt, shaping both her professional and personal growth.

Her vision is to see young people become financially independent, confident in their abilities, and capable of creating jobs rather than only seeking them. She believes that empowering youth with the right skills and mindset can lead to broader community transformation.

Her message to young people is simple but powerful: believe in yourself, stay patient, and keep learning. She emphasizes that progress does not always come quickly, but consistent effort and small steps can lead to meaningful and lasting success.
