Every year, thousands of talented African students dream of studying at some of the world's leading universities. Many never make it there. Not because they lack ability, ambition, or potential, but because they lack something far less visible: information, guidance, funding, and someone to show them what is possible.
Bimpe Femi-Oyewo knows that journey because she lived it.
As a teenager from Nigeria preparing to pursue higher education in the United States, she discovered that navigating international education had little to do with intelligence alone.
"I realised that students were making life-changing decisions with limited information, little guidance and almost no visibility into the opportunities available to them."
That experience stayed with her.
Years later, it became the foundation of Edward Consulting, an education consultancy built on the belief that talent should never be limited by access. The firm helps students navigate the international education journey. From admissions and scholarships to mentorship, visa support, and financing -making distant opportunities attainable.
As the organisation grew, so did its responsibilities. Edward Consulting had earned students' trust through deeply personalised support, where every application, scholarship, and interview could shape a student's future. Preserving that standard of care became increasingly difficult, especially as many of the organisation's core functions continued to depend on Bimpe.

"It wasn't simply about hiring more people," she explains. "We needed people with the right skills, the right mindset and a genuine belief in our mission."
Protecting the quality of support often meant walking away from revenue and growth opportunities.
"There were opportunities we declined and revenue we willingly left on the table because we refused to compromise on quality. These were students' dreams, careers and futures. If we couldn't serve someone exceptionally well, we would rather say no."
Bimpe realised that sustaining Edward Consulting's impact would require more than hard work. The organisation needed stronger systems, stronger leadership, and the capacity to grow beyond its founder.
That search eventually led her to AMI's Aspire Programme.
"I already understood concepts like budgeting, planning, and performance management," she says. "What Aspire did was help me become far more intentional in how I applied them."

Through tools such as organisational risk assessments and scenario planning, Bimpe was challenged to step back from the day-to-day demands of running the business and view it more strategically. She began identifying vulnerabilities before they became problems, preparing for different growth scenarios and making decisions guided by clearer priorities rather than instinct.
Even familiar frameworks took on new meaning.
"I already knew what a SWOT analysis was," she says. "But AMI helped me apply it in a much more practical way. It challenged me to translate what I knew about the business into clear priorities and measurable actions."
The shift was soon visible across the organisation.
Annual retreats evolved into structured strategy sessions. Quarterly reviews replaced informal check-ins. Financial planning became more disciplined, processes were documented, and leadership gradually shifted from one founder carrying the business to a team with clearly defined roles and shared accountability.
"Building a successful business isn't just about execution," Bimpe reflects. "It's also about structure, reflection, community and intentional leadership."
Rather than hiring simply to meet demand, Edward Consulting became more deliberate about building the right team, placing equal emphasis on technical ability, cultural fit and a shared commitment to its mission. This approach has since guided the recruitment of an Educational Consultant and an Executive Assistant. Onboarding has become a collective effort, while continuous learning and professional development ensure that as the organisation grows, its people grow alongside it.
"We are no longer just growing the business," Bimpe says. "We are growing people, systems and leadership capacity at the same time."
The results followed.
With stronger systems and greater organisational capacity, Edward Consulting has recorded significant revenue growth, expanded through carefully selected strategic partnerships and increased its ability to serve students without compromising the personalised support that defines its work.
Over the past seven years, the organisation has helped African students secure more than US$30 million in scholarships and funding opportunities. Yet Bimpe believes the true measure of success cannot be captured in numbers alone.
It can be seen in students like Bright Uwakwe.
Bright came to Edward Consulting with exceptional academic ability but daunting personal barriers. Through mentorship, admissions support, funding for SAT preparation and application fees, and encouragement through multiple visa setbacks, the organisation walked alongside him at every stage of his journey.
Today, Bright has secured more than US$2.1 million in scholarship offers, earned admission to more than twelve universities, and is studying in the United States on a fully funded scholarship, becoming the first person in his family to study abroad.
His story is one of thousands. Beyond changing individual lives, Edward Consulting is helping strengthen the broader education ecosystem by partnering with organisations such as GMAC across Africa to expand access through MBA fairs, CV clinics and advisory sessions, while working with universities to open more pathways for African students.
From refugee students in Kakuma to young people across more than ten African countries, Edward Consulting continues to expand access to global education. It advocates for a system where African students are recognised not as statistics but as individuals with talent, ambition and futures worth investing in.
For Bimpe, when one student gains access, the opportunity rarely ends with them. It reaches families, strengthens communities, inspires future leaders while creating possibilities that extend far beyond a single.
That, she believes, is how you change a continent-one scholarship at a time.
